Kotlin Developer (SC Cleared) Outside IR35 We're looking for experienced Kotlin Developers to join a high-profile national digital programme, developing secure, scalable software solutions as part of a major government digital transformation initiative. You'll be working within multidisciplinary Agile teams alongside Product Managers, Designers and Delivery Managers to build modern, user-focused applications using Kotlin, contributing to high-quality digital products that will be used at scale. We're particularly interested in developers who are passionate about Android outside of work. Whether that's building personal Android applications, contributing to open-source projects, experimenting with new Kotlin frameworks, or maintaining an active GitHub portfolio, we'd love to hear about it. Due to the nature of the programme, active SC Clearance is required. Key Responsibilities Develop secure, scalable applications using Kotlin. Write clean, maintainable and well-tested code following modern engineering best practices. Collaborate with multidisciplinary Agile teams to deliver high-quality software. Build and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services. Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and architectural decisions. Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards and development practices. Required Experience Strong commercial experience developing software using Kotlin. Active SC Clearance. Excellent understanding of Kotlin, including Coroutines, Flows, Extension Functions and modern language features. Experience designing scalable, maintainable applications. Experience working with RESTful APIs and JSON. Strong understanding of Git and collaborative software development. Experience working within Agile delivery teams. A passion for software engineering and writing high-quality, maintainable code. We'd Love to See Personal Android applications or Kotlin side projects. An active GitHub showcasing Kotlin development. Open-source contributions. A genuine interest in modern Kotlin development and emerging technologies. Experience experimenting with new Kotlin libraries, frameworks or tooling. Desirable Experience Jetpack Compose or Android development experience. CI/CD pipelines. Experience working within Government or other regulated environments. Knowledge of accessibility and secure software development practices. This role would suit an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems with Kotlin, takes pride in producing clean, maintainable code, and has a genuine enthusiasm for software development both professionally and through personal projects.
