Road Marking Specialist

Job Purpose The postholder will undertake road marking and surface marking works on the highway network safely, efficiently, and to the required standards. The post holder will operate specialist road marking vehicles and equipment in accordance with NYHighways’ policies, client specifications, and statutory requirements, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of road marking operations. Main Duties and Responsibilities Apply permanent and temporary road markings using thermoplastic and paint materials. Operate road marking machinery, including hand applicators and mechanical extrusion systems. Prepare work areas by cleaning, drying, and priming surfaces prior to marking. Set out works in accordance with design drawings, standards, and site instructions. Install, maintain, and remove temporary traffic management (cones, barriers, signs) in line with Chapter 8 requirements. Undertake line removal operations using approved techniques. Complete daily vehicle and plant checks, reporting any defects or maintenance requirements. Maintain accurate records of work completed, including materials used and time on site. Ensure all works comply with relevant safety, environmental, and quality management procedures. Liaise with supervisors, team members, and site representatives to ensure efficient project delivery. Maintain vehicles, plant, and tools in a clean, serviceable condition. Always represent NYHighways in a professional manner. Undertake tasks to support delivery of the WinterMaintenance service, including but not limited to; installing plough attachments, loadingsalt onto vehicles, acting as Banksman, map reading assistance, monitoring obstructions/hazards on the highway and alert the Winter Driver to these, hand salting and snow clearance. Participate in an out of hours call out Rota to respondto emergencies and winter maintenance activities. Work in line with all NY Highwayspolicies and procedures and be aware of the obligations for employees under these. Comply with health and safety policies, organizational statements and procedures, report any incidents / accidents / hazards and take a pro-active approachto health and safety matters in order to protect oneself and others. Person Specification To be trained in the belowor, willingness to undertake training once in post: Banksman Manual Handling Abrasive Wheels Safe dig Emergency FirstAid Current driving license HGV license NRSWA Knowledge &Experience Demonstrable experience in road marking operations, including new installations of road markings to Highways specifications and interpreting designs and technical drawings. Demonstrable experience in the use of all plant and equipment involved in line marking operations. Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements relevant to highways work.
