Role description

The successful candidate will investigate complaints from tenants , carry out property inspections, and provide specialist advice, advocacy, and casework support to residents experiencing issues within the private rented sector. They will work closely with vulnerable tenants to help safeguard their rights and ensure they can live safely and securely in their homes. A key aspect of the role involves engaging with landlords , letting agents , and other stakeholders to secure compliance with housing legislation and improve housing conditions. Where informal resolution is not appropriate or effective, the postholder will take proportionate enforcement action in accordance with the Council’s Enforcement Policy, using the full range of regulatory powers available. The role will have a particular focus on supporting private rented sector tenants and ensuring landlords meet their legal obligations under the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 . This includes identifying breaches of legislation, gathering and assessing evidence, preparing enforcement cases, and contributing to the Council’s wider objectives of improving housing standards and protecting residents from harm. There will be the opportunity for continued professional development for the successful candidate as well as training specific to the role. What we are looking for from you Knowledge of private sector housing legislation — Understanding of private sector housing law, tenancy relations legislation, and the statutory framework relevant to the Renters’ Rights Act 2025. Experience dealing with the public — Experience of working directly with members of the public in a front-facing role, providing information, support or resolving issues. Experience conducting inspections and resolving service requests — Experience of carrying out inspections, responding to service requests and delivering satisfactory, outcome-focused solutions. Experience delivering advice, advocacy and casework — Experience providing advice, advocacy and casework support, ideally within a regulatory, housing or enforcement context. Competent user of CIVICA CX or similar systems — Able to use CIVICA CX or have experience of using a similar data management system confidently and accurately.
